Canister, turbine, cartridge: which is which

The canister is the housing; the turbine cartridge is what spins inside it. A canister is replaced when the head is dented, the threads are stripped, or the push-button cap no longer seats — not because the handpiece has lost power. We stock standard universal (#15-80), universal push button (#15-89), mini head (#15-79), mini push button (#25-79), supergrade (#15-76, #25-76), and the NSK/Henry Schein master push button (#25-89).

Before you order a canister

Practice Tip #91 is worth reading first: most handpieces that come in for a 'dead head' need a turbine, not a shell. Spin the bur by hand — if it is rough or noisy, that is the bearings (Practice Tip #70). If it holds nothing, that is the chuck (Practice Tip #66). Order the canister when the damage is to the housing itself, and check the brand-specific fits: Benco/Healthco Push N' Swivel (#15-77) and Safco Excel / NSK Viper 2 (#25-74) are not universal.
