Cuspidors

Cuspidor bowls, strainer baskets, drain filters and the relay valves behind them. A slow-draining bowl is nearly always the strainer, not the drain.

Strainers first

Strainer baskets are sold to fit: standard (#56-90), A-dec style (#56-95), large (#56-93), and covered (#56-94). They are a consumable — a basket that has been cleaned enough times to lose its shape stops catching debris and starts passing it into the drain line. Keep a five-pack in the cupboard and change them on a schedule instead of when the bowl backs up. The cuspidor drain filter (#49-655) is the second line of defence.

Noise, cross-over and the valves behind the bowl

A sucking or chattering sound from the drain kit means it needs flushing: attach the small grey nipple to a length of clear tubing, connect the other end to the barb on the back of the grey casing, and press (Practice Tip #132). Pipes that squeak, rattle or groan when water runs — and cross-over that shows up across the whole office — point at the cuspidor timer valves and the on/off valves on the manifold (Practice Tip #51). The water relay valves themselves (#05-50, #05-51, #05-52) are stocked here.
