Perforated, rim lock or plain

Perforated trays let the material key through and are the default for alginate. Rim lock trays (#21-396, #21-U1) hold the material at the periphery instead, which is what you want for a polyvinyl impression where you do not want the material pulling away at the flange. Plain stainless (#21-U1 plain) is for materials with their own adhesive. Alginate lock trays (#21-312) sit in between.

Sizes, and ordering the assortment once

Adult full arch (#21-32) and pedo full arch (#21-34) come 25 to a pack in upper and lower, small, medium and large. Quadrant trays (#21-36) cover anterior and left/right quadrant. Buy an assortment once to find out what your operators reach for, then reorder the two or three sizes that actually move. Registration trays (#19-350) are a separate item — anterior and full arch.
